PSG becomes 'favourite' French club across the country after second Champions League triumph
On May 31st, PSG created football history. Yet, perhaps more significantly, the club from the capital has carved out an even larger space in the affections of French supporters.
In the same way that Saint-Etienne dominated the 1970s and Marseille the 1990s, Paris Saint-Germain is now imprinting its stamp on the current era.
A CSA study, carried out with a sample of 1,511 French citizens, reveals that 67% believe PSG brings pride to the whole of France, not merely to Parisians. Despite the intensity of football rivalries, 77% of those who watched the Champions League final on Saturday, May 31st, were rooting for PSG to win. Moreover, "65% reported feeling satisfied".
Concerning this latest major trophy, the third ever won by a French club, 65% of French people consider PSG to be among the finest teams in the history of French sport. This is a notable status, particularly when one thinks back on the greatest accomplishments.
The Parisian outfit appears to have undergone a very favourable shift in the eyes of the French public. Some 73% of respondents believe that it enhances France's international standing. During the 2025-2026 season, Luis Enrique's side truly shouldered the burden of French football.
Strasbourg did go as far as the semi-finals of the Conference League, but that third-tier European competition clearly does not enjoy the same level of visibility.
Now, on an emotional level, and this may be the most important aspect for a club's image, 67% of respondents have a positive view of PSG. Moreover, the players on this team are good role models for young people (65%).
And "73% of French people regard Paris Saint-Germain as a popular club across the whole of France, not only in Paris or the Île-de-France region", as the CSA press release notes.
In conclusion, when compared to other great teams, this PSG is the most popular among those polled (43%), ahead of OM from the 1990s (14%) and ASSE from the 1970s (13%). "83% say they are proud that such a team exists in France", reports the CSA.
