Pep Guardiola Claims Title Push Finished If Manchester City Defeated By West Ham
Pep Guardiola feels that Manchester Citys effort to win the Premier League will end if they cannot overcome the improving West Ham this Saturday.
Manchester City may begin their visit to the London Stadium ten points adrift of table toppers Arsenal, provided the Gunners secure victory over Everton earlier that day.
Guardiola squad holds an additional fixture against Arsenal and benefits from playing at home when they clash next month.
However, the team needs to recover from the setback of a 3-0 defeat in the Champions League against Real Madrid on Wednesday, which greatly reduces their prospects of advancing to the quarter finals.
The Premier League stands as the toughest competition to conquer, Guardiola remarked on Friday. He added that it remains the hardest challenge, yet City stays in contention, aware that any lost points would spell the end.
The Manchester City manager has claimed six Premier League crowns during his nine years coaching in England.
Yet last term, his side lagged far behind, ending up third and 13 points short of winners Liverpool.
Being in this position now brings real enjoyment, Guardiola noted. Unlike last season when they could not compete at this level, this feels rewarding.
He has long maintained that in the final ten matches, every club battles for a goal, be it avoiding the drop, qualifying for the Europa League, the Conference League, the Champions League, or lifting the title.
Thus it comes as no surprise. At this point, there are no further opportunities.
West Ham lingers in the bottom three but has suffered defeat in only two of their last eleven outings across all tournaments, drawing them one point from escape and propelling them into the FA Cup last eight.
