Pedri sidelined as Barcelona injury list expands

Barcelona midfielder Pedri faces several weeks on the sidelines after suffering a torn biceps femoris injury during the 2-1 loss to Real Madrid at the weekend, according to the club.

The 22 year old from the Canary Islands received a red card in Sundays match and was already set to sit out the upcoming league fixture against Elche next Sunday, but he will probably also skip the away game versus Celta Vigo prior to the international break.

Barcelona stated that the estimated recovery period depends on how the injury progresses.

The team has a Champions League clash with Club Brugge on 5 November.

Pedri now links up with Joan Garcia, Marc ter Stegen, Gavi and Raphinha among the Barcelona players nursing injuries, although Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo are back in training sessions.

Barcelona sit in second place in La Liga, trailing leaders Real Madrid by five points.
