Ousmane Dembele may feature for PSG versus Tottenham following recent injury absence

Ballon d'Or recipient Ousmane Dembele might make his most recent return in a season plagued by injuries as Paris Saint-Germain take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League this Wednesday.

"We will assess it tomorrow, but provided there are no issues, he will join the squad," manager Luis Enrique stated to journalists ahead of the fixture in the French capital.

The 28 year old Dembele claimed the Ballon d'Or for his exceptional displays in the previous campaign, yet he has only started five matches for PSG thus far this term owing to ongoing fitness troubles.

His most recent outing came during the current European title holders' 2-1 defeat at home to Bayern Munich three weeks back, where he managed just 25 minutes on the pitch before exiting due to a calf injury.

"Whenever a player returns from an injury, it proves challenging to manage their involvement, and with Ousmane, we must exercise extra caution, even though we are eager to have him playing again," Luis Enrique continued.

PSG, who secured victories in their opening three group stage games in Europe's premier club tournament this season prior to the Bayern setback, will also miss key players Desire Doue and African footballer of the year Achraf Hakimi against Spurs.

The French side occupy fifth position in the 36 team league table with nine points, as Tottenham trail them by one point in tenth place. The top eight teams at the conclusion of the league phase progress straight to the knockout stage, while teams ranked ninth to 24th enter a playoff.

This encounter marks the second clash between the teams this season. They previously met in the UEFA Super Cup in Udine, Italy, back in August, where PSG overcame a two goal deficit to level at 2-2 and then prevailed in the shootout.
