Ollie Watkins eyes upsetting his Arsenal-backing relatives
Ollie Watkins expressed his wish that the Arsenal enthusiasts among his relatives see him defeating the Gunners on the England forwards 30th birthday this Tuesday.
Watkins entered the game as a substitute and kept Villas unexpected Premier League title push alive by netting two goals in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday.
Unai Emerys side sits three points behind Arsenal and one point off Manchester City in a close contest for the top spot among the three teams.
Watkins mentioned that numerous family members will attend the Emirates match this week, though he hopes not everyone departs satisfied with the result.
"A large portion of my family who back them (Arsenal) will be there," Watkins shared with Sky Sports.
"So they will be in the opposing section and ideally see me repeat tonights performance in a few days time."
Even with Villas impressive run, Watkins endured a tough spell this season before his brace at Stamford Bridge.
He had only found the net three times before that, and Emery disclosed earlier this month that the forward has dealt with knee issues for more than a year.
Nevertheless, Watkins aims for a powerful end to the campaign, motivated by the prospect of earning a place in Englands squad for next years World Cup.
"Clearly, Im not at my desired level," he commented regarding his form this term.
"As a forward, you aim to score in every match. If that is not happening, you still want to contribute effectively and support the squad.
"I believe Ive delivered some solid showings this year, yet perhaps not up to the benchmark I have established for myself, adding some self-imposed stress.
"I have not reached my goals so far, but now I can take this as a turning point and build from it."
