Olise impresses with brace as Bayern smash Wolfsburg 8-1

Michael Olise netted a brace and established a new Bundesliga assist milestone as Bayern Munich demolished Wolfsburg 8-1 on Sunday, extending their lead to 11 points at the summit of the standings.

The Bavarian side showed no mercy upon resuming after the winter hiatus, prompting two own goals from the faltering Wolves, while Harry Kane, Luis Diaz, Leon Goretzka and Raphael Guerreiro also found the net.

Bayern, who remain undefeated, have surrendered only four points across their 16 Bundesliga fixtures this term, marking the strongest performance among Europe's elite divisions. 

Olises pair of assists elevated his total to 25 across 50 league appearances, surpassing the mark set by any other player reaching that Bundesliga milestone. 

This result bolstered Bayerns commanding history versus Wolfsburg, featuring 21 triumphs and two stalemates in the 23 encounters spanning all tournaments since 2015. 

Bayerns previous Bundesliga loss to Wolfsburg occurred in January 2015, with a then 23-year-old Kevin de Bruyne netting twice and assisting once in the Wolves 4-1 triumph, half a year prior to his transfer to Manchester City. 

Wolfsburgs aspirations to reverse the recent pattern suffered a swift blow as Killian Fischer turned a Diaz delivery into his own goal. 

Former Bayern youth product Dzenan Pejcinovic responded for the Wolves, yet their joy proved fleeting, as Olise provided the pass for Diazs goal on the 30-minute mark. 

The onslaught persisted for Bayern shortly after the interval, with Olise converting and compelling Moritz Jenz of Wolfsburg to score an own goal within a mere three minutes. 

Guerreiro, Kane and Olise each struck during an intense eight-minute spell in the latter stages of the second half, before Goretzka sealed the comprehensive victory with his goal two minutes from time. 

Goretzkas effort represented Bayerns 63rd league strike this season, exceeding the haul of any team over the opening 16 rounds in Bundesliga annals. 

Kanes contribution marked his 20th in the competition this year, positioning him well to challenge Robert Lewandowskis single-season record of 41 in the Bundesliga. 

On Saturday earlier, Haris Tabakovic claimed a double as Borussia Moenchengladbach secured a comfortable 4-0 victory at home against Augsburg.
