Norwegian squad expresses dissatisfaction with hotel setting prior to friendly against Netherlands in Amsterdam
Stars from Stale Solbakkens national side are staying at the Van der Valk Hotel Oostzaan, which sits about 20 minutes outside the heart of the Dutch city.
From their rooms they overlook a busy four lane road, offering the team a clear sight of the constant flow of vehicles.
This environment has left the players far from impressed.
I did not anticipate this. Frankly I find it rather poor. I have raised it with the appropriate staff, states Borussia Dortmunds Julian Ryerson. I enquired about the choice of accommodation. I visit Amsterdam often. My home is just 2.5 hours drive away. It is a lovely place, so I felt let down upon arrival, Ryerson tells Dagbladet.
Morten Thorsby, currently with Cremonese, shares the view and raises concerns over the hotels position.
I am familiar with Amsterdam. I spent plenty of time here during my stint at Heerenveen. There are several pleasant spots nearby. Even in a good hotel, it helps to step out for some variety. You lack a cafe or so close by, the Norwegian player notes, per Dagbladet.
That said, Stale Solbakken remains unconcerned by the feedback, viewing it calmly.
It does not bother me greatly. Perhaps it serves as a challenge. If three days beside a four lane road proves too much, then 35 days in the USA will be impossible. The accommodation is far from perfect, yet we will manage, the head coach comments, according to Dagbladet.
Norway meets the Netherlands in Amsterdam this Friday at 20.45 CET
