Netherlands to face Uzbekistan in final World Cup warm-up game

The Netherlands had not yet revealed the opponent for their concluding warm-up fixture in June, although a match versus Algeria on June 3rd is scheduled as the send-off encounter.

On Thursday, the KNVB disclosed that World Cup newcomers Uzbekistan, managed by Fabio Cannavaro, shall serve as the ultimate adversary before this summers FIFA World Cup. The Netherlands and Uzbekistan, grouped in Group K alongside Portugal, Colombia, and D.R. Congo, are set to clash at Icahn Stadium in New York City on Monday, June 8th.

The fixture will proceed without an audience on account of the restricted seating at Icahn Stadium, a 5,000-capacity athletics venue located in Manhattan.

The Netherlands have previously contested friendly matches against Norway, securing a 2-1 victory, and Ecuador, ending in a 1-1 stalemate, both in March, ensuring exposure to teams from Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia prior to the FIFA World Cup. Coach Ronald Koeman has voiced a keen desire to encounter sides from diverse regions worldwide.

From New York to Kansas City

The Netherlands will head to the United States on June 4th, the day following their friendly with Algeria, and base themselves in New York City from June 5th to 8th for initial preparations. Oranje will subsequently relocate to Kansas City, Missouri, to establish their Team Base Camp at the KC Current Training Facility.

Oranje’s opening FIFA World Cup match against Japan is slated for Sunday, June 14th.

The Netherlands versus Uzbekistan encounter will commence at 14.45 local time, equivalent to 20.45 CET.
