Napoli Defeat Bologna to Claim Italian Super Cup
Napoli secured the Italian Super Cup on Monday evening, with David Neres netting a brace to deliver the defending Serie A title holders a 2-0 victory against Bologna in the Jeddah showdown.
The Brazilian attacker Neres unleashed a superb curled strike from afar to hand Napoli the advantage prior to the interval, up against the prior year's Coppa Italia holders.
Neres doubled his tally later on by snatching a misplaced pass from Bologna custodian Federico Ravaglia during an attempt to build play from deep.
In total, Neres bagged three strikes across the Super Cup, including his goal in the 2-0 semi-final success versus AC Milan from the prior week.
This represents Napoli's third victory in the tournament, succeeding their wins in 1990 and 2014.
"The team deserves applause," Napoli manager Antonio Conte stated to Sport Mediaset.
"They proved their eagerness for this award in honour of the supporters, and we can now savour a splendid Christmas festivity with additional silverware to showcase."
Customarily involving the Serie A and Coppa Italia champions, the Italian Super Cup has incorporated the league and cup runners-up since 2023.
The four-team event is agreed to occur in Saudi Arabia up to 2029.
Napoli, sitting two points adrift of Serie A frontrunners Inter Milan, resume league play on Sunday with a trip to Cremonese. Bologna welcome Sassuolo at home.
