Nagelsmann urges bold showing from Germany ahead of Switzerland friendly

The German team is missing a handful of stars such as Jamal Musiala, Felix Nmecha and Aleksandar Pavlovic, alongside goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, who stepped back earlier on Thursday. Urbig will sit out the upcoming fixtures versus Switzerland and versus Ghana on Monday due to a slight knee problem.

"A few squad members are absent, which is somewhat annoying, yet we possess a solid lineup," Nagelsmann remarked during Thursdays press briefing. "Plenty of talents exist who can make their mark."

After disappointing early departures from the group stages in the 2018 and 2022 editions, Germany is focused on claiming the World Cup crown to reclaim its status as a dominant force in international football. The event kicks off in June and will be jointly organised by Mexico, the United States and Canada.

Nagelsmann expressed his desire for the side to produce a steady display, no matter the outcome.

"I am after a brave effort. No matter the scoreline, what counts is our execution on the pitch, advancing to the following phase. Perfection is not on the cards," he explained. "However, I do not wish for those ups and downs we sometimes see mid match."

Having secured their spot in the World Cup, Switzerland has requested permission for 11 changes during Fridays encounter as they evaluate options for the big event.

"If we aim to assess individuals in the coming match, a strong framework supporting them is essential," Nagelsmann noted. "Personally, I dislike the idea of 11 swaps. The Swiss proposed it, though I accepted without issue.

"Still, I do not plan to make use of all 11 spots tomorrow," he continued.

Germany has not appeared in a major tournament final since lifting their fourth World Cup trophy in 2014 back in Brazil. They find themselves placed in Group E alongside Ecuador, Curacao and Ivory Coast for the competition spanning June 11 to July 19.

Their initial World Cup clash will occur in Houston, Texas on June 14 facing Curacao. Next, Germany heads to Toronto on June 20 for the meeting with Ivory Coast, wrapping up group duties against Ecuador in New York on June 25.

Switzerland occupies Group B with Qatar, hosts Canada and a yet to be confirmed playoff qualifier, details of which will emerge shortly.
