Nagelsmann Comments on Woltemades Challenges at Newcastle from Unfamiliar Role

After transferring from Stuttgart to Newcastle during the summer as their most expensive acquisition, Woltemade managed goals in four out of his opening five Premier League appearances, however he has netted only three times in his last 21 domestic fixtures, failing to score since December.

Addressing the media in Frankfurt on Thursday, shortly after including Woltemade in Germanys 26 player selection for the March internationals facing Switzerland and Ghana, Nagelsmann explained that the forwards flexibility results in him not always starting centrally up top.

"Eddie Howe has clearly chosen, and I lack further insights on this, to rotate his forwards accordingly. That is entirely his prerogative."

"Recently though, and this is merely my view, he has been positioned much deeper. Operating in a double pivot setup, Nick Woltemade faces a considerable distance to cover before he can find the target.

"He is hardly the typical rapid breakaway forward sprinting at 36 km per hour and outpacing defenders. Positioned 80 metres from goal, I doubt British reporters anticipate him reaching 20 goals, given the excessive separation from danger."

Nagelsmann assured that the 1.98 metre (6 ft 6 in) towering attacker, who boasts four strikes in eight outings for Germany, would feature in a more threatening spot.

"His current output ties closely to the broader context. What I can guarantee is that with our team, he will not operate 80 metres from the net.

"Should we find ourselves structured 80 metres out, he simply will not feature. I intend to deploy him nearer, about 30 metres from goal. There, he will pose a real threat and execute many strengths effectively."

The manager highlighted Woltemades adjustment to Newcastles style and the Premier Leagues rigours, referencing his swift progress over recent seasons, evolving from a substitute at Werder Bremen to a key starter for the national side in just one year.

"He is certainly enduring a challenging spell at Newcastle, yet that is expected," Nagelsmann remarked, noting "fresh culture, unfamiliar league, new tongue.

"Even in Stuttgart, it took him some adjustment time."
