Moyes criticises restrictive booking following Everton's dramatic equaliser
Everton boss David Moyes criticised the restrictive regulations that resulted in him receiving a yellow card for rushing onto the field to celebrate Beto's injury-time equaliser during the 1-1 stalemate with Brighton on Saturday.
Moyes could hardly hold back his excitement at the Amex Stadium as Beto netted in the seventh minute of added time to level the score after Pascal Gross had put Brighton ahead in the 73rd minute.
The Scottish manager's exuberant run onto the pitch prompted referee Chris Kavanagh to caution him for stepping outside the technical area along the sideline.
Moyes's enthusiastic incursion evoked memories of David Pleat's famous jig onto the Maine Road turf after Luton secured their top-flight status on the last day of the 1982-83 season by beating Manchester City.
Moyes momentarily considered finishing his celebration with a sliding knee move.
Even though the 62-year-old decided against it ultimately, he maintained that the caution would not dampen his passion moving forward.
"I hope you are not planning to dub me 'Pleaty' from now on," Moyes remarked.
"The key difference is that David Pleat never got booked for such antics, people view it as fine and everyone appreciates the joyful moments.
"We are spoiling the fun by preventing managers from exiting their technical zones to rejoice over a goal, perform knee slides or create memorable talking points."
When questioned about repeating the action, Moyes responded: "I absolutely will do it again!
"In truth, had I been a touch more agile, I could have attempted a knee slide. It would likely have earned me just another yellow, so why not commit fully next time."
