Mourinho reiterates claims of referees favouring Sportings Danish star Hjulmand with special treatment

Mourinho had previously voiced criticism towards referees in the Portuguese league regarding their handling of Hjulmand back in December, and ahead of the recent weekend matches, he once again stated that the Danish player receives unrestricted leniency from officials.

Known as The Special One, he delivered his comments with typical sarcasm, declaring that "Hjulmand has picked up Portuguese solely to interact more effectively with the referees."

"This is an aspect we ought to consider for any upcoming foreign signings at Benfica. Typically, in Portugal, we commend players who arrive in a new country and take the effort to learn the local language, a practice I myself pursued during my time coaching overseas."

"However, the usual aim is to ease social integration, enhance performance at work, and strengthen bonds with fellow team members. Picking up a language just to converse more smoothly with referees, now that is truly remarkable."

"Should Benfica acquire another overseas talent, we will prioritise getting them fluent in Portuguese swiftly. Such circumstances are truly outstanding," Mourinho remarked with irony, as reported by Portuguese outlet A Bola.

FC Porto currently tops the Portuguese Primeira Liga table, maintaining a clear lead over competitors Sporting CP and Benfica. They hold a four point edge over Sporting and a seven point advantage ahead of Benfica.
