Mikel Arteta says Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber could return for Southampton clash

Noni Madueke formed part of the eleven Arsenal squad members who opted out of international commitments last month citing injuries and the need to manage fitness levels, while the team pushes for their inaugural Premier League success since 2004.

"Whenever we update on each player's status, transparency is key, and a decision from the medical team was necessary. The outcome was straightforward," Arteta explained to journalists on Friday.

"It fills us with immense pride to see so many of our players representing their countries. They are eager to feature for their nations. I understand the significance it holds for them. We back it completely, and whenever feasible, we make it happen."

Madueke sustained a knee problem in England's friendly against Uruguay, which caused him to sit out the match versus Japan. However, Arteta noted that the issue is less severe than a previous knee concern that sidelined him for six weeks.

Martin Zubimendi, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Jurrien Timber, Leandro Trossard, Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka, and Declan Rice were also absent from their international squads.

Arteta refrained from revealing the availability of these players ahead of Saturday's fixture, as Arsenal seek to move past their League Cup final defeat to Manchester City last month, with another Wembley appearance looming in the FA Cup semi finals.

"At this stage, we must field the most robust team possible to compete in every tournament," he added. "The FA Cup is just two or three matches away, and we recognise its vital role for the club."
