Micky van de Ven concedes Spurs' season 'embarrassing' despite staying up on final day
The north London club secured their Premier League survival with a vital 1-0 victory over Everton under interim manager Roberto De Zerbi, who steered the team to safety after taking over during a tough campaign.
Tottenham had won only seven of their first 31 league matches before De Zerbi orchestrated a dramatic turnaround.
Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day, the Netherlands international voiced frustration that a squad of such quality had been battling relegation right up to the final weekend of the season.
"It is disgraceful that our last match of the season was a relegation battle. This squad has some incredible players. It was embarrassing to leave it until the last day, but we achieved it, and that is what matters," he said.
"Honestly, I was more emotional when the final whistle blew. It has been a difficult season for me personally too. I played nearly every match, and I have endured a lot. The emotions are overwhelmingly happy, and we cannot allow this to happen again."
