Matildas book two home friendlies with Mexico in June
The Matildas continue to recover from their 1-0 loss to Japan in the final of the Women's Asian Cup back in March, yet they have already earned a spot in the 2027 Women's World Cup set for Brazil.
Building towards that event advances further this season as they welcome world number 27 Mexico to McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle and CommBank Stadium in Sydney over the June international break.
Mexico failed to reach the World Cups in 2023 and 2019, aiming now to secure qualification for 2027 through the CONCACAF W Championship scheduled for November to December, including a playoff versus world number 49 Haiti in Texas.
The Matildas enter as strong favourites in these games, owing to their home soil edge, higher world standing, and an impressive record of nine victories in ten encounters with Mexico.
The latest result was Australia's 2-0 victory in a friendly match against them in San Antonio back in April 2024.
These encounters are set for Saturday, June 6 in Newcastle, and Tuesday, June 9 in western Sydney, with ticket sales starting next week and both games airing on Paramount+.
