Marseille go top in Ligue 1 as Lens thrash Monaco

Players from England Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood found the net as Marseille seized the summit of Ligue 1 from Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday through a 3-0 victory at home against Brest.

In the 25th minute Gomes gave Marseille the lead via a free kick that evaded the grasp of Brest custodian Radoslaw Majecki.

Greenwood converted his eighth goal in the league this season from a penalty after Igor Paixao suffered a foul from defender Kenny Lala.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted a third in the closing stages as Marseille rebounded from their contentious Champions League loss midweek to Atalanta positioning them one point ahead of PSG in Frances premier division.

"Its typical of Marseille We played badly against Atalanta on Wednesday with almost the same team as today" said Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi.

"But today I think we played a very good match and I had a lot of fun on the bench."

Odsonne Edouard edged Lens in front in the principality though Balogun levelled with a spot kick Wesley Said soon reestablished Lenses advantage before Baloguns dismissal for a tackle on Mamadou Sangare.

Sangare netted Lenses third just before the interval Said added another in the 60th minute Ansu Fati wasted a late penalty for Monaco exacerbating their woes as they endured a second consecutive league reversal dropping five points adrift of the frontrunners.

Le Havre grabbed a dramatic leveller to end 1-1 against Nantes.

PSG under Luis Enrique hampered by injuries could regain the top position on Sunday with success at Lyon but the title holders lack Ousmane Dembele Achraf Hakimi Desire Doue and Nuno Mendes all sidelined.
