Marseille crumble late as Paris FC rally to claim draw

Marseille endured a dramatic late downfall and squandered a two-goal advantage to finish in a 2-2 stalemate against Paris FC in Ligue 1 on Saturday, with the sting from their agonising Champions League elimination still very much alive.

Mason Greenwood slotted in a first-half penalty for his leading 13th goal in the league this season and provided the assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to extend Marseille's lead shortly after the interval.

Yet, just three days on from their astonishing exit from Europe, Marseille unravelled once more as Jonathan Ikone's headed effort pulled one back for Paris FC, and Ilan Kebbal restored parity with a stoppage-time penalty.

Marseille fell to a 3-0 defeat at Club Brugge on Wednesday, but a desperate last-minute header from Benfica's goalkeeper during their triumph over Real Madrid proved decisive in ousting Roberto De Zerbi's squad from the tournament.

De Zerbi quashed rumours of his departure following the loss in Belgium, after he was absent from training the following day.

The Italian coach confirmed he had met with club leaders to plot the most effective route ahead after the Champions League setback, although the manner of Marseille's newest stumble will only fuel the growing anxiety at the Velodrome.

Lens surged back ahead of Paris Saint-Germain to take the top position on Friday, courtesy of Ruben Aguilar's goal delivering a 1-0 victory at home against bottom-tier Le Havre.

Luis Enrique's side can recapture the lead by securing at least a point in their Sunday away match versus Strasbourg.
