Maresca reaffirms dedication to Chelsea role amid recent comments
Enzo Maresca stated on Monday that he remains fully dedicated to his position as Chelsea manager, following his remarks over the weekend about enduring his toughest 48 hours since arriving at the club.
The Italian coach expressed these unexpected views after Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over Everton at home on Saturday, criticising unidentified individuals for not backing him and his team adequately, while making clear that supporters were not the target of his frustration.
During a press conference on Monday, ahead of Chelsea's League Cup quarter-final clash with third-division Cardiff, he declined to elaborate on his statements.
Maresca appeared frustrated when pressed to explain his words, which have sparked widespread rumours that he might have been directing criticism towards the club's ownership and sporting leadership.
"I value the views of the media and the public," he remarked. "However, I have nothing further to say, and my attention is solely on tomorrow's match, which could see us reach a third semi-final in the 18 months since I took charge."
He also emphasised again that his comments on insufficient support did not involve the fans, adding: "After the match, I expressed my appreciation for Chelsea's supporters. They truly merit the highest standards."
In response to questions about his ongoing commitment, he affirmed: "Without question, yes."
Maresca, who began his tenure at Chelsea in July 2024, guided the team to triumphs in the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup during his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League standings, his squad retains an opportunity to advance directly to the Champions League's knockout stage.
The ex-Leicester manager indicated that he is relishing the current campaign, even under significant scrutiny.
"As Chelsea's manager, one quickly grasps that the demands are elevated, particularly this year when they seem even greater than before, likely owing to our successes like the Club World Cup, Conference League, and fourth-place finish in the Premier League last term," he noted.
