Mano Menezes, Ex-Brazil Manager, Takes Helm of Peru Team

On Thursday, Mano Menezes, formerly at the helm of Brazil, received the appointment as head coach of Perus national football side, coming after their inability to reach the 2026 World Cup.

Agustin Lozano, the Peruvian federations president, stated that Menezes has the responsibility of guiding the team towards qualification for the 2030 World Cup.

Now 63 years old, Menezes led Brazil for two years between 2010 and 2012, though he has yet to claim a major honour, even after managing numerous elite Brazilian outfits. Additionally, he has held coaching roles in Saudi Arabia and China.

Known for stepping in to revive faltering squads, Menezes inherits a Peruvian outfit that ended ninth among the 10 South American entrants in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers, securing only two wins from 18 fixtures.

The nations most recent World Cup involvement came in 2018, representing their return to the event following a 36 year gap.
