Manchester United Defeated While Lyon Secures Dramatic Draw in Women's Champions League

On Wednesday Manchester United experienced their initial defeat in the Women's Champions League falling 5-2 to Wolfsburg whereas Lyon staged a remarkable recovery from a three goal deficit to claim a draw against Juventus.

The Dutch players Ella Peddemors and Lineth Beerensteyn each found the net twice helping Wolfsburg overcome a Manchester United team that had triumphed in their previous three league phase encounters.

Fridolina Rolfo gave United the lead with a header in Germany yet Wolfsburg levelled when Peddemors curled a shot in following a mishandled clearance by goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel.

Peddemors scored once more as her cross inadvertently crossed the line after bypassing multiple defenders then Beerensteyn struck powerfully from afar to extend Wolfsburg's advantage.

Melvine Malard's delicate chip brought United back into contention right before the interval however Beerensteyn's second strike of the evening all but clinched victory for Wolfsburg.

Vivien Endemann notched a fifth for Wolfsburg in added time securing their third win from four outings.

The German outfit surpassed United on goal difference climbing to third place in the table with two fixtures remaining. The leading four sides advance straight to the quarter finals.

Lyon mounted an incredible resurgence sealed by skipper Wendie Renard's penalty in the 90th minute resulting in a 3-3 stalemate with Juventus.

Juventus appeared comfortable at half time courtesy of strikes from Chiara Beccari Michela Cambiaghi and Tatiana Pinto.

However Tabitha Chawinga reduced the arrears for Lyon around the hour mark Marie-Antoinette Katoto added a further goal and Renard slotted home from the spot to salvage a share of the spoils for the away team.

Lyon hold a slender one point lead over Barcelona at the summit. Barcelona face Chelsea on Thursday.

The defending champions Arsenal host Real Madrid later on Wednesday.
