Manchester City Nearing Guehi Deal According to Palace Manager Glasner
Manchester City are in the final stages of securing a transfer for England defender Marc Guehi, according to Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on Friday.
City have intensified their efforts to sign Guehi, who narrowly missed out on a move to Liverpool on deadline day in September, amid a severe injury crisis at the centre-back position.
Guehi would be Citys second acquisition in the January transfer window, following the signing of winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth last week for around £65 million ($87 million).
The 25 year old led Palace to FA Cup victory in May against City, marking the south London clubs first major honour, and he has earned 26 caps for England.
Other interested parties, including Liverpool again and Bayern Munich, were thought to be planning approaches at the seasons end, when Guehi would have become a free agent.
The latest information suggests that the agreement with Marc is approaching completion, Glasner stated ahead of Palaces Premier League clash with Sunderland.
We cannot verify it yet, but it remains unfinished. Consequently, Marc will not feature for us tomorrow.
The Palace manager continued: When a player desires to depart, a transfer materialises. It appears that has occurred now.
Everyone hoped Marc would remain indefinitely. I discussed it with him, naturally, and that conversation is private. Marc demonstrated his full dedication to the squad and Crystal Palace during the summer window and throughout the autumn.
I wish him every success in the remainder of his career. He is just starting what promises to be an outstanding one. He is an excellent individual.
City manager Pep Guardiola declined to comment on the possible signing during his press briefing before the teams game at Manchester United.
The side currently lack senior centre backs John Stones, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol through injury, with Nathan Ake limited by fitness problems that prevent him from playing more than once weekly.
Guardiola, with his squad in second place in the Premier League and six points adrift of Arsenal, described the situation as challenging not just for one match but for an extended time, noting: Ruben should return shortly. Josko will not. John, we hope to see him soon.
Glasner also announced on Friday that he intends to depart Palace upon the expiry of his contract at the seasons close.
