Man City success 'despite' refereeing calls, claims Guardiola

Pep Guardiola claimed that his achievements with Manchester City have occurred regardless of unfavourable refereeing rulings, in a strong statement after their 2-0 victory against Wolves on Saturday.

During the match, City missed out on a penalty in the opening half when official Farai Hallam, officiating his initial Premier League fixture, declined to reverse his original call on a handball by Yerson Mosquera, even after VAR prompted a review.

Guardiola expressed frustration over Diogo Dalot avoiding a sending-off early in the prior 2-0 loss to Manchester United, where he struck Jeremy Doku on the knee with his boot studs.

The ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has secured six Premier League crowns across his nine complete years in English football.

However, injuries severely affected City last term, allowing Liverpool to claim the championship, and they currently sit four points adrift of Arsenal in the current standings.

"In these past two campaigns, I sensed the absence of key squad members. That remains my sole disappointment," Guardiola remarked.

"I wish we had the personnel to compete against such rulings. Despite them, the team prevailed.

"The official delivered a notable first appearance. From now on, everyone recognises him. It seems unprecedented for VAR to review footage on screen and then reject a spot-kick."

Opting to give Erling Haaland an unusual break proved wise, as substitute Omar Marmoush seized the opportunity to replace the striker and net the opener.

Antoine Semenyo followed up with his third strike for City, having transferred from Bournemouth at the start of this month.

Marc Guehi featured for the first time in defence for City, having finalised his switch from Crystal Palace.

Guardiola anticipates significant contributions from Guehi and Semenyo during the latter part of the campaign, given Citys commitments across four tournaments.

"These are ideal additions," Guardiola continued. "In the previous January window, we brought in youthful talents, bar Omar.

"Antoine arrived brimming with vitality, and forwards thrive on goal tallies. His form since joining has been exceptional.

"Regarding Marc, his reputation precedes him. He possesses full awareness. It reminds me of Rubens arrival with Dias, displaying unwavering concentration in every moment.

"On the ball, he exhibits remarkable poise. We havent rehearsed much, yet I feel our central defence performed slightly stronger.

"At his current stage, hes an outstanding acquisition for numerous seasons ahead.

"You can count on him. From just two practices, I observe his vision, movement, communication, and anticipation of plays."
