Mac Allister Feels 'Nothing Was Good' Despite Liverpool Victory
Alexis Mac Allister stated that Liverpool need to review their display even though his strike in the 97th minute secured a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The team struggled to create chances against a relegation-threatened opponent until the final moments.
Mac Allister saw an earlier effort disallowed after the ball struck his arm during a block on Ola Aina's clearance attempt.
The World Cup-winning Argentine then finished calmly in added time, and the goal was upheld despite Hugo Ekitike being offside at the start of the sequence.
"I have mixed emotions really," Mac Allister commented. "I enjoy scoring and winning, so it's a positive day in that regard.
"However, we did not perform well overall. We have many areas to work on."
Liverpool stay sixth in the standings for the moment, but the result has put Arne Slot's squad on equal points with Chelsea and Manchester United in the race for Champions League qualification next season.
Mac Allister was especially harsh on their lacklustre opening 45 minutes, with Alisson Becker's saves proving vital to keep them in contention.
"We'll look back on it this week, but the first half was poor. Our positioning, energy levels, and pressing were all subpar," the ex-Brighton player noted.
"It fell short of our usual level. The second half improved slightly, though I wouldn't call it strong.
"We created a few opportunities, and crucially, we took the three points."
Liverpool suffered a pre-match setback when Florian Wirtz picked up an injury in the warm-up.
Slot remains optimistic that the issue is minor.
"It does not seem too severe, but his back tightened up in the warm-up, so we chose not to risk him starting," Slot explained.
"We anticipate he'll rejoin the group next week, though it's hard to predict exactly."
