Lyon Suffer Late Toulouse Defeat in Ligue 1

Lyon suffered an unexpected 2-1 home loss to Toulouse in Ligue 1 this Sunday, as Emersonn, a recent signing, headed in a winning goal in the 96th minute.

Paulo Fonseca's team entered the weekend matches tied with Paris Saint-Germain at the league summit but have dropped to third place following Toulouse's unexpected victory.

The Brazilian striker Emersonn was the main catalyst for Lyon's downfall, equalising in the 87th minute before scoring the decisive goal during additional time.

With Malick Fofana giving the home side the lead in the 24th minute, Lyon seemed poised to take first place before PSG's later match against Lille.

Substituted into the game during the final 20 minutes, Emersonn dramatically turned the match around, lifting Toulouse to ninth position with 10 points.

The 21-year-old, who joined from Turkish club Goztepe during the summer, scored his first Toulouse goal in the 87th minute when his deflected shot from the left side arched over the stranded Lyon goalkeeper Dominik Greif.

The winning goal arrived in the sixth minute of added time, with the Brazilian leaping above the defence to head home a cross from substitute Alexis Vossah.

Later on Sunday, Monaco face their Cote d'Azur rivals Nice, while Strasbourg play Angers and Rennes travel to Le Havre.

PSG, dealing with numerous injuries, can extend their lead to three points at the top of Ligue 1 in Sunday's final match as they travel to Lille.
