Lens secure victory to regain Ligue 1 leadership over PSG

On Friday Lens climbed above Paris Saint-Germain to take the lead in the French Ligue 1 standings following a 1-0 home victory against struggling Le Havre courtesy of a goal by Ruben Aguilar.

The right-back Aguilar who earned a single cap for France back in 2020 met a cross from Matthieu Udol at the far post to score during added time in the first half on a wet evening in the remote north of France.

This result signalled a positive shift for Lens who had notched up 10 successive wins in league and cup action prior to a 3-1 setback in Marseille the previous weekend.

Heading into the fixture Lens occupied second position in the Ligue 1 rankings two points adrift of PSG.

The triumph placed them one point clear at the top after 20 matches although Luis Enriques squad can retake the summit by securing at least a draw in their away clash with Strasbourg on Sunday.

Lens now lead Marseille by eight points with the latter looking to recover from their midweek Champions League elimination when facing Paris FC on Saturday.

Sunday sees Lyon entertain Lille in a showdown between the fourth and fifth placed sides.
