Laporta deems Messi comeback to Barcelona as unrealistic

Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, described the prospect of club legend Lionel Messi rejoining the Catalan outfit as unrealistic during a statement on Wednesday.

The Argentine icon, aged 38, unexpectedly showed up at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening, expressing his wish that one day I can return, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I never got to do.

Messi, recipient of eight Ballon dOr awards and holder of Barcelonas records for goals and matches played, departed for Paris SaintGermain in 2021 following a 20year stint, due to the clubs unstable finances preventing them from retaining him.

Out of the utmost respect for Messi, the professionals at the club, Barca, and the Barca club members, I believe that now, for me to make speculation that is unrealistic, nor do I think is fair, well, I believe that is not appropriate, Laporta remarked to Catalunya Radio.

As the leader during Messis exit, Laporta expressed no remorse over the events, emphasising that Barca is above everything.

Laporta affirmed his desire to organise a tribute match honouring Messis achievements at the renovated Camp Nou upon its complete reopening.

Things didnt end the way we would have liked, if, in some way, this tribute can make up for what wasnt done, I think it would be a good thing, Laporta elaborated.

It would be right that he has the best tribute match in the world, and it would be wonderful to have it here, in front of 105000 fans, he added.

Laporta noted that Messis unanticipated appearance at the venue on Sunday as an Inter Miami player reflected a spontaneous expression of his affection for the team.

At present, Messi is in Spain alongside the Argentina squad, preparing for an upcoming friendly encounter with Angola.
