Kgomotso Modiba from South Africa Adapting to Role with Fluminense in Brazil
The 18 year old talent hails from the Stars of Africa Academy in Johannesburg and already caps for South Africa at Under 20 level, after contributing to their success in winning the Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt the previous year.
Farouk Khan, who owns the Stars of Africa Academy, maintains longstanding links with Brazil. Sending Modiba to South America serves to familiarise him with independence from home, considering his immense promise that signals a future overseas in football.
Khan released a video montage showcasing the youngster from a recent match, where he won and converted two penalties. He formally contracted with the club in January following his 18th birthday, after undergoing a trial in Brazil last year.
His on field approach echoes that of Emile Witbooi, the skilled midfielder at Cape Town City, viewed as a potential future star for the Bafana Bafana national side.
At present, Modiba represents the sole South African presence in a Brazilian Serie A outfit, even if past players from his country have appeared there previously.
Mark Williams turned out for Corinthians during 1996, and Tyroane Sandows joined Grémios senior lineup in the 2016/17 campaign.
Khan has directed more than one prospect to Fluminense before. Luther Singh, for example, joined training sessions with the club and Vasco da Gama aged 16, before transferring to Sweden to begin his professional path.
