Kevin De Bruyne undergoes surgery for hamstring tear

Napoli midfielder Kevin De Bruyne had surgery on his damaged hamstring in Belgium on Wednesday, according to the Serie A side.

Napoli released a statement saying, "Kevin De Bruyne had the planned procedure in Antwerp on Wednesday after suffering a severe tear in the biceps femoris muscle of his right thigh."

The surgery was successful. De Bruyne received support from Napoli's chief medical officer, Dr Raffaele Canonico, during the operation. He will now start his initial recovery phase in Belgium.

The 34 year old picked up the injury while converting a penalty for Napoli in their 3-1 victory against Inter Milan on Saturday.

Since moving to Napoli from Manchester City this summer, De Bruyne has netted four goals, including three penalties and one free kick.

On Tuesday, Napoli's sporting director Gabriele Oriali indicated that De Bruyne could be sidelined for three or four months.
