Kane strikes again as Bayern beat Dortmund to stay clear in Bundesliga

Harry Kane netted a goal in his seventh consecutive match while Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund at home on Saturday, marking their eleventh triumph in eleven fixtures across all competitions this season.

This result ensured Bayern remained five points ahead at the top of the Bundesliga standings, preserving their flawless run with 21 points from seven matches so far.

"It proved a significant encounter. Dortmund had gone without a loss for some time, much like us," Kane, who registered his 104th strike for the title holders, remarked to the press.

"We must continue securing these victories. So far, we are managing it effectively."

The loss positioned Dortmund in fourth place, trailing Bayern by seven points.

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany deployed Kane in the number 10 position supporting the on-loan Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, who earned his third start for the side.

Kane wasted little time displaying his playmaking skills by delivering passes to wingers Luis Diaz and Michael Olise, both of whom created strong opportunities within the first ten minutes.

Kane then headed Bayern ahead with a classic finish from a corner in the 21st minute, reaching his 400th club-level goal.

The striker has now tallied 19 goals across 11 appearances in all tournaments this season for Bayern, with 12 coming in the league.

Following the dominant first half in Bayern's favour, Dortmund improved after the break and nearly equalised when Serhou Guirassy capitalised on a Bayern mistake to set up Karim Adeyemi, who lost his footing attempting to fire home.

Jobe Bellingham entered as a substitute near the end, but his hesitation with the ball in his own penalty area let Olise nick possession and slot in Bayern's second with 11 minutes remaining.

Kane mentioned chatting with his fellow England player Bellingham about the lapse, advising him: "Keep doing what you're doing".

"He's an excellent talent with immense promise," the England skipper noted about the 20-year-old.

Dortmund responded with a consolation from Julian Brandt, who poked home a threatening cross by Julian Ryerson in the 84th minute, yet the away side failed to convert their final push.

As his deal at Bayern nears its conclusion at the end of next season, Kane informed the media post-match that "discussions will take place" regarding an extension.

"No need to hurry, but everything feels positive. I've previously expressed my contentment at Bayern."

Grimaldo at the double

Alex Grimaldo found the net twice to help Bayer Leverkusen claim a 4-3 win away to Mainz, stretching their unbeaten sequence to eight outings ahead of a continental match against defending title holders Paris Saint-Germain.

The result lifted Leverkusen into fifth position, matching Dortmund on points.

Grimaldo's penalty opened the scoring for Leverkusen on 11 minutes, and Christian Kofane extended the lead mid-first half by converting a smart team effort with a placed effort into the bottom right.

Leverkusen conceded an avoidable goal in the 34th minute as Loic Bade's attempted clearance struck a teammate, permitting Lee Jae-sung to find the target.

Just prior to the interval, Leverkusen forced a mistake from Mainz, and Jonas Hofmann, who had earned the spot-kick, later set up Grimaldo inside the area for an easy finish, his sixth goal in ten games overall this term.

Martin Terrier's effort three minutes before full time had extended Leverkusen's advantage to 4-2, though Mainz's Armindo Sieb quickly reduced the deficit to spark tension in the closing stages.

Leverkusen, who have led at the outset in all seven of their games this season, managed to hold firm in the end.

"Following a rocky beginning to the campaign, we are now accumulating some results," Hofmann shared with Sky.

"Our aim is to develop further and settle under our manager (Kasper Hjulmand), who recently arrived."

The Danish coach Hjulmand took over from the dismissed Erik ten Hag in early September.

RB Leipzig triumphed 2-1 over promoted Hamburg at home, courtesy of a brace from Christoph Baumgartner sandwiching a goal by Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Leipzig suffered a 6-0 drubbing in their opening league match at Bayern but have bounced back strongly, collecting five victories and one draw to reach second place.

In other action, Stuttgart defeated Wolfsburg 3-0 away to rise to third, with goals from ex-Wolf Tiago Tomas alongside Germany's Maximilian Mittelstaedt and Angelo Stiller.

Promoted Cologne shared a 1-1 draw with Augsburg at home, while Werder Bremen surrendered the advantage on two occasions to end 2-2 at Heidenheim.
