Kane notches second hat-trick for Bayern as Hamburg grab first win

Harry Kane notched his second hat-trick in the Bundesliga this season to inspire Bayern Munich to a 4-1 triumph over Hoffenheim on Saturday, while Hamburg claimed their first victory in the top division after a seven year wait.

Named man of the match for his brace in Wednesdays 3-1 Champions League success against Chelsea, the England captain impressed once more in a Bayern lineup featuring heavy rotation.

Manager Vincent Kompany implemented five switches, among them a debut start for Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea.

Bayern appeared disjointed in the opening stages with Hoffenheim generating the clearer openings, though Kane broke the deadlock before the interval by volleying home from a corner.

Hoffenheims prospects of a shock result faded immediately after the restart when Kane dispatched a penalty following a contentious handball call in Bayerns favour.

Kane completed his treble from 12 yards in the 77th minute after VAR intervened over a challenge on Michael Olise.

Hoffenheims Vladimir Coufal reduced the deficit late on as his free kick took a deflection into the net.

Serge Gnabry, previously with Hoffenheim, rounded off the scoring in added time to confirm Bayerns seventh straight win across all competitions this campaign.

Kane has now tallied 13 goals this season, eight of which came in four Bundesliga outings.

Since linking up with Bayern in 2023, he boasts 98 strikes in 103 appearances. This marked his ninth hat-trick for the club.

Meanwhile in Hamburg, the freshly promoted outfit overcame Heidenheim 2-1 to end a 2,688 day drought for a top flight success, spanning seven years and four months.

Having drawn blanks in their initial three Bundesliga matches upon returning this summer, Hamburg went ahead when Luka Vuskovic finished the rebound from a free kick moments before half time.

Arsenals on loan Fabio Vieira orchestrated the second goal with 30 minutes left, threading a pass to Rayan Philippe who finished with composure.

Heidenheim pulled one back through Adam Koelle in stoppage time, igniting a chaotic flurry of action at both ends, yet Hamburg clung to their advantage.

In further action, Freiburg triumphed 3-0 away to Werder Bremen, and Mainz prevailed 4-1 at Augsburg despite playing with 10 men following Dominik Kohrs dismissal early in the second period.

RB Leipzig will face promoted Cologne later on Saturday.
