Kai Havertz Targets World Cup Glory for Germany Amid Injury Recovery

Havertz has missed over a year with the national side after sitting out last seasons internationals due to injuries. He joins the Germany team for matches against Switzerland on Friday and Ghana soon after.

I went through a difficult period. It was challenging for me Havertz shared during a press briefing before Germanys friendly versus the host nation Switzerland.

My initial injury struck in February of the previous year leading to three and a half months sidelined followed by a return and then another issue with my knee he explained.

The 26 year old returned to play for Premier League frontrunners Arsenal in January following a layoff that started in August last year. He now feels prepared for his teams demanding fixtures across the league FA Cup and Champions League.

I am fully fit at this point. I just need a few starts to hit peak form though I am ready to play full 90 minutes he noted.

Havertz mentioned that Arsenals packed calendar arrives perfectly timed.

With numerous games across three tournaments I sat out the seasons opening half and I plan to contribute everything for the team while building momentum for the World Cup. I aim to shine in this tournament and guide our efforts he stated.

Germany eyes the World Cup title after early tournament departures in 2018 and 2022 aiming to reclaim their status as a top football force. The event kicks off in June hosted jointly by Mexico the United States and Canada.

The side last reached a major final when securing their fourth World Cup in 2014 in Brazil. They land in Group E alongside Ecuador Curacao and Ivory Coast for the June 11th to July 19th competition.

Their first match occurs in Houston Texas on June 14th facing Curacao. Germany heads to Toronto on June 20th to meet Ivory Coast then wraps group play against Ecuador in New York on June 25th.
