Jurrien Timber Eyes League Cup as Spark for Arsenal's Season

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber feels that securing the English League Cup could motivate the Gunners to achieve greater things this campaign.

Mikel Arteta's squad is only 90 minutes from halting their six year drought for a significant honour, after defeating Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday to earn a spot in next month's final.

The team leads the Premier League by six points and has advanced to the Champions League knockout stage with a perfect group record.

They will also take on third division side Wigan in the FA Cup fourth round a week from Sunday.

"We have not won anything yet, but we have positioned ourselves brilliantly to claim titles," Timber commented when questioned about whether taking the League Cup might drive Arsenal to further triumphs.

"The Carabao Cup final arrives soon, so it might serve as a strong incentive and lift for the remaining competitions too.

"It is not always feasible to deliver peak performance. Yet this squad excels at discovering paths to victory regardless. We managed it on the road against Chelsea, which is tough, and at home as well. Thus it feels well earned.

"You could sense the relief and joy from everyone about heading to Wembley. And with any luck, there will be further joyous occasions ahead."

Kai Havertz entered as a substitute to confirm Arsenal's final berth by netting in added time versus his old team Chelsea.

Havertz missed almost a year due to hamstring and knee surgeries but has now found the net twice in his most recent three outings.

"Kai's role in the squad brings a substantial impact, both off and on the field," Timber noted. "All can appreciate his outstanding skills, and how delighted we were for him.

"He brings energy to the group. He is far from reserved and is well liked by all.

"His absence is felt by the team, so we are glad to have him back. I wish him well in savouring this achievement, and hope for plenty more such instances."

Arsenal will welcome Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday, where victory might stretch their advantage over Manchester City to nine points prior to Pep Guardiola's side visiting title holders Liverpool the next day.
