Jonathan David scores twice as Canada rally from two-goal deficit to earn draw against Iceland

In a match where spots in the World Cup team were at stake, Kamal Miller struggled under pressure with a bouncing ball in the ninth minute.

His short back pass allowed Orri Oskarsson to break free and slot the ball past Dayne St Clair at the near post with composure.

As expected, Jonathan David emerged as Canadas most dynamic forward early on, setting up a promising opportunity for Nathan Saliba, though the Anderlecht player lacked precision and curled his effort straight at Elias Rafn Olafsson.

This missed chance failed to shift the first halves flow, as the away side added a second goal shortly after.

Mikael Egill Ellertsson delivered the key through ball to Oskarsson, who, buoyed by his earlier strike, fired confidently into the top corner past the stranded St Clair.

Even though his team could not close the two goal gap before the break, Marsch chose to stick with his lineup at half time.

This decision nearly paid off around the hour mark, when Ali Ahmed found David, only for Olafsson to make a superb save.

However, just as the match seemed out of reach, Canada pulled one back after Ellertsson tripped Tajon Buchanan inside the box, allowing David to calmly convert the penalty and snap his four match goal drought for the national side.

Minutes later, replacement Daniel Jebbison was brought down while driving into the penalty area, and David levelled the scores with an identical spot kick.

Buoyed by the comeback, the home team pressed hard on Icelands defence in the closing stages, but Tajon Buchanans reckless elbow on Ellertsson earned him a straight red card.

Despite the late drama, Canada eyes building form ahead of their clash with Tunisia, while Iceland seeks victory over Haiti in their upcoming fixture.
