Inter's Marcus Thuram anticipates resilient response from struggling Liverpool

Marcus Thuram, the striker for Inter Milan, stated on Monday that the Italian team consistently performs well in the Champions League, expecting a strong comeback from the troubled Liverpool.

The Premier League outfit are languishing in ninth position, having secured just four victories in their previous 15 fixtures, amid turmoil triggered by criticism from Mohamed Salah.

The forward from Egypt has netted 48 times in the Champions League over his professional tenure, yet he finds himself excluded from Arne Slot's lineup for the San Siro encounter, after voicing his frustrations publicly following Liverpool's 3-3 stalemate with Leeds on Saturday.

"The truth is that a champion, when doubts arise, wants to show what they're really capable of," Thuram remarked during a pre-match news briefing.

"Everyone might think this is the perfect time to face Liverpool, but maybe not," he cautioned regarding the English side, currently 13th in the league phase table.

"We're going to face a great team with great players. It's up to us to continue doing what we've been doing lately and even do better."

Thuram emphasised that Inter "have rarely faltered in the Champions League these past few seasons", despite falling short in certain key fixtures this term.

"Since I've been an Inter player, we've won some big matches," the French player noted.

"In a game of this calibre, anything can happen, but it's true that we've been missing something in the top matches this season."

Inter suffered a 5-0 loss in last season's final against Paris Saint-Germain and sit fourth in the Champions League group stage with 12 points so far.

However, they recently endured a 2-1 setback in Madrid versus Atletico, marking their initial significant challenge in this season's Champions League.

Inter hold second spot in Serie A, trailing Napoli by a single point, though they have already endured four losses, including three against fellow title contenders Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan.
