Inter Turku climb to the summit in Finnish league after beating Jaro while VPS held by Gnistan

Inter Turku 2-0 Jaro

As many of the top teams stumbled during Friday nights action, Inter Turku realised that victory would propel them to the leagues summit, and they secured the full points within the opening 30 minutes.

Clinton Jephta gave the home side the lead after 15 minutes, drifting in from the left flank before executing a fine one-two with Johannes Yli-Kokko and then slotting the ball past the keeper.

Jephta and Yli-Kokko were involved again in FC Inters next goal, just 12 minutes afterwards - Yli-Kokkos delivery into the box was redirected by Albin Granlund towards Jephta, who struggled to convert amid pressure from the custodian, yet Loic Essomba reacted quickly to force the ball over the line.

The outcome might have changed if Rudi Vikstrom had capitalised on his opportunities for Jaro, who departed Turku still seeking their first success this term, ending their sequence of four consecutive stalemates. Inter now sit on 14 points, leading AC Oulu, TPS and KuPS by two.

VPS 1-1 Gnistan

Following three straight losses to start the season, Gnistan have now gone three games without defeat, recovering from a deficit to earn a point against VPS, halting the hosts two-match winning streak.

The momentum that had already triumphed over Ilves and Mariehamn seemed poised to persist early on, when after seven minutes Luka Smyth was brought down by the away sides stopper Alexandro Craninx. Smyth took the kick and deceived Craninx completely from 12 yards.

However the home team could not maintain their advantage, and shortly past the hour, Danny Perez charged forward along the left before crossing for Adeleke Akinyemi to provide the decisive touch and claim a draw. This result boosts Gnistan to 10th position, as VPS hold steady in sixth.
