Inter fight back to thrash Pisa and extend Serie A lead to six points
Inter Milan came from two goals behind to defeat newly promoted Pisa 6-2 convincingly on Friday, stretching their advantage at the top of Serie A to six points.
Spectators at the rain-soaked San Siro were stunned by Stefano Moreos quick double, featuring an impressive lob over Inter keeper Yann Sommer from almost the centre circle.
However, Piotr Zielinskis spot-kick in the 39th minute ignited the turnaround late in the first half, as forwards Lautaro Martinez and Pio Esposito each powered in headers to give Inter the lead by half-time.
In the closing 10 minutes, Federico Dimarco, Ange-Yoan Bonny, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan added the final goals, sealing Inters ninth victory in their current 10-game unbeaten streak in the league.
This emphatic triumph for Inter ramps up the pressure on title challengers AC Milan and Napoli, both set for difficult away matches this weekend.
Inters nearest rivals Milan head south on Sunday to confront fourth-placed Roma, a side that has yet to claim a win in a big game but is steadily progressing under Gian Piero Gasperini.
Napoli, nine points adrift in third, travel to Turin on Sunday as reigning champions, coming off a draw with 10-man FC Copenhagen that threatens their Champions League survival.
Pisa languish at the bottom of the standings, with only four points from their past 10 fixtures, this crushing loss following a hopeful opening in the Tuscan clubs first San Siro meeting with Inter since October 1990.
The 5000 travelling supporters erupted in joy as Moreo seized on a wayward pass from Sommer to chip it back over his head into the empty net in the 11th minute, before the Italian striker nodded in to double the visitors lead around midway through the opening period.
Yet Alberto Gilardinos side collapsed after Zielinskis strike, and Pisa wound up allowing the same tally of goals against Inter as they had more than 25 years prior.
