Spain give an impressive glimpse of their World Cup credentials with a dominant victory over Peru

Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring after two minutes with a fierce strike from the edge of the area before Pedri doubled the advantage just after the half-hour mark, slotting into an empty net following a cross from Ferran Torres.

Spain added a third early in the second half when Yeremy Pino's delivery forced a mistake from goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, before Jairo Velez pulled one back for Peru with a low finish.

The excitement of the World Cup was clear around the stadium, where Spain shirts were everywhere among the stands, alongside Barcelona jerseys, reflecting the club's significant presence in Luis de la Fuente's squad.

Peru supporters were outnumbered but remained vocal throughout the evening, voicing their support constantly.

Pedri, Rodri and Ferran Torres received some of the biggest cheers as fans started chanting and performed the wave around the stadium.

Stalls selling World Cup merchandise lined the streets outside, while strict security measures did not spoil the festive atmosphere.
