'I am quite calm': Oscar Gloukh stays patient despite limited minutes at Ajax

The 21-year-old Israeli midfielder Oscar Gloukh transferred to Ajax from Red Bull Salzburg for 15 million euros in the summer of 2025. He made a strong initial impact but later dropped out of the starting eleven. He has faced challenges in gaining match time under temporary coaches Fred Grim and Oscar Garcia.

Gloukh's most recent outing for Ajax came on 1 March, where he started in the 0-0 draw away to PEC Zwolle. Following three straight matches without featuring, he returned to the lineup for Israel and provided an assist in their 2-2 stalemate against Georgia.

Speaking to TV5 about his reduced involvement, Gloukh admitted it has affected him emotionally. "I have gone through a stretch without much action on the pitch, including under the earlier manager. It frustrated me to sit out. I was eager to feature and help secure wins," he explained.

"Yet, it also benefited me in a way, as I rejoined the squad with renewed energy. I chased every ball, applied pressure, and pushed the team forward. I gave my all to contribute to success, hoping that effort is recognised."

Oscar Garcia, from Spain, replaced Fred Grim in March, becoming the third boss at Ajax this term and the second since Jordi Cruyff took on the technical director role. Gloukh has discussed his position with Cruyff and remains composed as the 2026/27 campaign approaches.

"Right now, the manager favours different options, and Oscar Garcia is sticking with them. I spoke with Jordi, and I feel at ease. I am focusing on wrapping up this season strongly, then we will assess the future. I am under contract, so that settles it."
