Hugo Broos names the player assured a place in South Africas 2026 World Cup team if he remains fit

Themidfielder Zwane returned to international action for the first time since October 2024 after dealing with recurring injuries at Mamelodi Sundowns yet Broos is prepared to secure his spot regardless showing the esteem he has for the 36 year old creator.

He is an excellent player Broos stated. He elevated our performance on the pitch. I was aware though that he could not manage a full 90 minutes. We must handle him cautiously to avoid overworking him as that would likely lead to more injuries I am certain.

That is precisely why he was substituted around the 55 minute mark. We will check on him next Tuesday in Cape Town where he will recover. Provided he does recover well he will feature once more since it is essential for him.

Broos has further indicated that Zwane should receive increased minutes at Sundowns in the upcoming period after being limited to brief appearances following his extended injury layoff.

I have no say in that matter but I do wish for him to gain more minutes at Sundowns too as he requires that match rhythm. He needs those additional minutes on the field Broos added.

We noticed several instances during the match where he appeared somewhat sluggish which stems from his lack of regular play.

Nevertheless if Themba maintains his current form stays healthy without setbacks then even without being prepared for a full match he will join us for the World Cup.

South Africa will take on Panama once more in Cape Town on Tuesday.
