Hoffenheim mount stunning comeback from two goals behind to earn draw against Augsburg in Bundesliga

Augsburg burst into the lead with two swift goals in the first 15 minutes. At the 11-minute mark, Alexis Claude-Maurice embarked on a weaving run from the centre circle, linked up with Robin Fellhauer, and fired a fierce low drive beyond Oliver Baumann.

Just three minutes on, a direct approach caught Hoffenheim out once more, as Jeffrey Gouweleeuw launched a long pass that Michael Gregoritsch controlled, shrugged off Ozan Kabak, and rifled into the net.

Christian Ilzers side, pushing for Champions League spots, were left reeling, and only a desperate block by Albian Hajdari stopped Anton Kade, before the same player forced a save from Baumann.

Hoffenheim had barely threatened by the 35-minute stage, yet they reduced the arrears when Vladimír Coufals corner was nodded in powerfully by fellow Czech Robin Hranáč, with 10 minutes left in the half.

The visitors were not done there, equalising right before the interval. Fisnik Asllani flicked a smart backheel to Bazoumana Touré in a crowded area, and the young forwards cut-back pass deceived Finn Dahmen, rolling into the net off the posts inside edge.

Even after levelling in somewhat lucky fashion, Hoffenheim nearly conceded again during added time in a frantic opening period. Hajdari was key once more, hooking Gouweleeuws header away from goal, while Gregoritsch crashed a volley against the crossbar from close range.

Unlike the chaotic first half, Hoffenheim generated an early opportunity just 30 seconds into the second, as Tim Lemperle directed a header over the bar following a neat lay-off from Grischa Prömel.

Lemperle posed danger shortly after, his close-range effort parried by Dahmen after a tidy exchange involving Asllani and Andrej Kramarić inside the penalty area.

Augsburg did not register a notable attempt until the 70th minute, with Claude-Maurice testing Baumann again, his deflected strike pushed away smartly by the keepers feet.

As the match seemed headed for a stalemate, Augsburg earned a late penalty when Bernardo felled Kade in the box. Claude-Maurice took it but blazed high over the target.

Time remained for one final dramatic moment, as Leon Avdullahu cleared off the line to thwart Dimitris Giannoulis after Baumann fumbled a delivery. In the end, no victor emerged, extending both teams winless sequences.

Hoffenheim have now gone four games without success, faltering in their pursuit of a debut Champions League qualification, whereas Augsburg remain trophyless in five outings and rooted in the middle of the table.
