Hansi Flick of Barcelona concedes Marcus Rashford gains major opportunity as Raphinha faces sidelining

Brazilian star Raphinha remains out until May due to a hamstring problem, creating space for Rashford.

The English attacker, currently on loan from Manchester United, shone during the initial part of the campaign yet has seen reduced action lately.

"As I mentioned earlier, I am pleased with Marcus. He has delivered strong performances. Over recent weeks, he encountered issues, including an injury, and we must manage that carefully," Flick shared with journalists on Friday.

The coach from Germany noted that Rashford will compete with teammates for the spot left by Raphinha.

"This represents a significant opportunity for him to demonstrate his abilities once more, though we possess alternatives," he added.

"Fermin Lopez could feature in that role, Gavi is another option, and I am delighted with Gavi's return to his high training standards."

Barcelona hold the right to purchase Rashford for 30 million euros from Manchester United, although no final call has been made on exercising it.

Flick mentioned granting Raphinha a short break in Brazil alongside his relatives to lift his spirits following the injury picked up during a match against France last week.

Raphinha will sit out multiple league fixtures and the forthcoming Champions League quarter final clash with Atletico Madrid, starting with the opening match on Wednesday.

"This injury comes at a tough time for the team and for him personally, leaving him quite upset," Flick remarked.

"I spoke with him via FaceTime; he seemed deeply upset and low... So I allowed him a few days in Brazil with family to refresh his thoughts."

Flick confirmed that defenders Jules Kounde, Alejandro Balde, and Eric Garcia are ready for the Atletico encounter at the Metropolitano, while midfielder Frenkie de Jong continues to recover.

Barca will meet Atletico on three occasions within 11 days and previously fell in the Copa del Rey semi finals to Diego Simeone's team this term.
