Hammarby secure statement win over champions Mjallby as Allsvenskan returns
Hammarby 3-0 Mjallby
Hammarby, who finished as runners-up over the last two seasons, entered this match eager to make a statement following their 13-point deficit to Mjallby, the team that shattered the points record to claim their first major honour last autumn.
Each team started the new campaign under fresh management, with Karl Marius Aksum stepping up from assistant at MAIF to ensure stability, whereas Bajen had to appoint Kalle Karlsson after Kim Hellberg moved to Middlesbrough.
Yet Hammarby displayed all the qualities of serious title challengers once more, in contrast to a Mjallby side that seemed far from their previous form. Nevertheless, the game remained level for much of the first half, with the breakthrough arriving only in the 42nd minute.
Abraham broke clear from the backline to connect with a lofted pass, and although his first shot was parried, keeper Robin Wallinder could not secure possession, allowing the forward to tuck home the rebound following a fortunate ricochet which appeared to come off Abraham's hand.
Two minutes later, Hammarby carved open a Mjallby defence which was so solid last season, as Abraham played a neat one-two with Nahir Besara and coolly tucked the ball past the goalkeeper.
The pair linked up again shortly after the interval, as Besara fed Abraham with a simple through ball from the edge of the box, and the left-sided man completed his hat-trick with another straightforward finish.
This scoreline did not fully reflect the action, since Mjallby registered more attempts on target throughout the match, though they failed to fashion a clear opportunity to test Warner Hahn in Hammarbys net.
It's a first competitive defeat for MAIF since a 2-1 loss to AIK on 11th May 2025, encompassing their progress to the Svenska Cupen final prior to the break, lining up an encounter with Hammarby itself.
Degerfors 0-3 Sirius
The days other fixture brought Sirius a convincing away victory against Degerfors, all goals arriving after the break.
In fact, the second period was only seconds old when the visitors put together an intricate move on the left wing, before Isak Bjerkebo drew the goalkeeper and provided Neo Ozzy Jonsson with a simple finish.
The contest remained poised until the 78th minute, when a robust tackle by Samba Diatara on Victor Svensson earned the away team a spot-kick. Bjerkebo did the honours and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to put the Uppsala side two up.
Robbie Ure reached double digits in the Allsvenskan during the prior year, and he kicked off 2026 in fine style by tapping home an unmissable chance after a precise ball across from Svensson.
