Guardiola Warns Manchester City of Over Reliance on Haaland's Scoring Prowess
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed concerns that his team depends too heavily on Erling Haaland for scoring after the forward netted twice in their 2-0 win against Everton on Saturday.
The striker from Norway has netted 23 goals in just 13 appearances for both club and national team in an explosive beginning to the campaign.
Haaland's brace propelled City to the summit of the Premier League standings temporarily before Arsenal's trip to Fulham.
Nonetheless Guardiola worries about the excessive dependence on their main striker.
"I am truly delighted yet we must not depend solely on him we require contributions from others" Guardiola remarked.
"From wingers and offensive midfielders they need to elevate their game and find the net.
Haaland has contributed 11 out of the 17 Premier League goals City has scored this term.
"Our aim is to supply Erling with top quality balls and service but fellow teammates must rise to the occasion The opportunities were evident and they must convert them" Guardiola added.
"Competing at this elite standard demands self motivation Clear shots from Savinho Jeremy Doku and Tijjani Reijnders they cannot afford to miss They must deliver or we will fall short of our ambitions."
Last season City placed a remote third behind Liverpool and Arsenal ending their streak of four straight titles in a year without silverware.
Following two losses in the first three league fixtures Guardiola's squad has now gone eight games without defeat across all tournaments and appears poised to challenge for the crown again due to Haaland's exceptional output.
"Haaland thrives on this" Guardiola noted "Our ball distribution has improved significantly and he remains our pivotal figure at present."
