Guardiola has 'unfinished business' at Man City

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City are progressing positively following a major squad overhaul, and he has promised that he remains committed to completing his "unfinished business" at the Etihad Stadium, even after nine years in charge.

Last season marked the first time under Guardiola's leadership that City ended without any silverware, placing third in the Premier League standings.

Although City dropped points in two of their initial three Premier League fixtures this term, they have since remained undefeated over seven encounters across all tournaments, narrowing the gap to just three points behind table toppers Arsenal.

"I will begin considering that in 2035," quipped Guardiola, whose deal with the club extends to 2027, in response to queries about potentially stepping away for a rest.

"I notice improvements in various areas compared to last year, and with each match, we improve a touch more.

"We still have room to enhance in numerous ways, which fuels my drive because the task is far from complete. It is entirely unfinished business. That is precisely the reason for my presence here."

Erling Haaland's exceptional performances have driven City's achievements so far in the campaign.

The striker has netted 21 goals across 12 outings for both club and international duty, bringing Norway close to qualifying for their first World Cup since 1998.

Guardiola concedes that replicating such a pace is "impossible" in the long run, yet he insists he and his colleagues must rise to the occasion during any lulls.

"He is in great shape, delivering not only in scoring but excelling in several other facets," commented Guardiola.

"As I have always maintained, it will inevitably decline, but we will support him through it. We will be ready. This drive to aid the squad endures, especially during tougher periods."

On Saturday, City's rivals Everton will miss out on a vital asset since Jack Grealish cannot feature against his parent team.

Grealish, signed from Aston Villa in 2021 for a record £100 million ($134 million), has found new life during his temporary switch to Merseyside.

"It aligned with his desires," Guardiola remarked regarding Grealish's transfer.

"He made an enormous difference from the outset. He is performing strongly. He is a fantastic, wonderful individual, though various factors kept him out of our lineup.

"At present, he is fully engaged, participating in every match."
