Griezmann pushes Atletico to harness second-half edge against Arsenal in return fixture

Julian Alvarez converted a penalty in the second half to level the score after Viktor Gyokores netted for Arsenal in the first period, which arguably left Atletico feeling the greater disappointment despite their overall command of the contest without converting it into a win.

The home team created openings to head into Tuesdays return leg with an advantage but missed that crucial finish, setting up a tough challenge to defeat Arsenal at the Emirates and progress to the final.

"Our play after the break showed far greater intensity and pressure. That approach keeps us in contention. It will be an exciting encounter either way. Be it at home or away, it promises to be a tense affair, yet that is what makes the sport so captivating," said Griezmann to the press.

"Letting in a goal just before half time stings. We implemented a couple of tactical shifts to improve our pressing and formation, which turned things around. Our supporters then gave us a real lift."

Griezmann, who hit the bar with a potential winner in the 63rd minute, emphasised that Atletico must build on their stronger second-half showing for the away game.

"I missed a trio of good opportunities to score towards the end of the second half, but I will bag one in the return match without doubt. The team put in solid work overall, and we need to carry that post interval form forward," added Griezmann.

"Reaching the final remains my ultimate ambition. I have put in plenty of preparation for this tie and will be geared up for the next leg, fingers crossed we make it happen."
