Grealish faces season ending injury at Everton casting doubt over World Cup involvement

Everton forward Jack Grealish could be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign following a foot fracture that threatens his participation in the upcoming World Cup.

The player who is currently on loan from Manchester City may require an operation after picking up the stress injury during Everton's narrow 1-0 victory over Aston Villa back on January 18.

"We think he will likely need to have surgery although that is not yet fully decided but it seems certain to keep him out until next season" Everton coach David Moyes explained to the media on Friday.

"This is a major setback for Jack as well as for the team and everyone involved here.

"He plays a vital role and brings plenty of personality along with his wealth of know how. We will certainly feel his absence. He has contributed so much positively already."

Grealish's most recent appearance for England was in the match versus Finland during October 2024 yet his strong performances while at Everton had revived his prospects for the global tournament.

England manager Thomas Tuchel had a conversation with him following Everton's triumph at Manchester United in November.

However with recovery timelines looking tight he may not be ready for the event scheduled across the United States Canada and Mexico starting June 11.

Grealish has been excelling on loan at Everton registering two goals alongside six assists across his 20 outings in the Premier League.

Now aged 30 the attacker appears to be regaining his top level after a tough spell at City where he lost his place in the squad under manager Pep Guardiola.

When questioned about whether the injury might impact a potential full time move to Everton Moyes indicated it was "much too soon" to consider future arrangements for the ex Aston Villa standout.
