Gerrard shares advice given to Salah about avoiding a controversial exit from Liverpool

Earlier this season, Salah stated that he shared no bond with manager Arne Slot, accusing someone of not wanting him at the club and claiming he had been unfairly targeted.

It seemed inevitable that Salah would depart in the summer, and the winger confirmed last month his intention to leave at the end of his contract, a decision that many fans believe is timely.

Gerrard feels this is the appropriate moment for the Egyptian to move on, as he discussed on The Overlap the messages they exchanged.

"I believe it benefits everyone involved. In my view, the timing feels right," Gerrard remarked.

"Particularly following his clear disagreement with the manager. I am unsure of the extent, but he gave that interview, which I suspect he will come to regret later.

"I reached out to him around the time of that interview and advised, 'Avoid repeating this and leaving under a shadow'.

"He sends me texts occasionally, or I message him, usually when I am travelling with Leo, just so Leo, my son, can meet him.

"We are not particularly close, yet it allowed me to tell him, 'You have been here for eight or nine years, built an incredible legacy since arriving. Depart on your own terms, in the proper manner'."

Salah is set to depart Liverpool at the season's conclusion, even with a year remaining on his deal. With growing interest from the Saudi Pro League, the Egyptian is weighing his choices as he gets ready to bid farewell to Merseyside.
