French Court Orders PSG to Pay Mbappe About 60 Million Euros in Wage Row

A French labour court has ruled that Paris Saint-Germain must pay their ex-striker Kylian Mbappe between 60 million and 61 million euros (about 71.8 million dollars) for outstanding wages and bonuses.

Mbappe who captains France and moved from PSG to Real Madrid in June 2024 had sought more than 260 million euros overall from his previous employer.

In response PSG sought 440 million euros from Mbappe.

The 26 year old player also argued that PSG had misclassified his contract under French law but the court dismissed this claim.

According to the court the amount totals 55 million euros in back pay plus roughly six million euros for holiday entitlements.

The Qatari backed club has yet to comment on any plans for an appeal.

Mbappe's legal team expressed pleasure at the ruling in a statement saying they "welcome the labour courts decision".

The statement continued that it "upholds a basic principle that labour regulations cover all in professional football too".

PSG had based their counterclaim partly on a failed 300 million euro deal with Saudi side Al Hilal which Mbappe turned down in June 2023.

He departed for Real Madrid without a transfer fee when his PSG deal ended the next summer.

Mbappe maintained he never agreed to forgo any club payments in 2023.

He first raised the issue in June regarding his treatment by PSG early in the 2023 24 campaign.

Mbappe contended that PSG excluded him from the squad and had him train with unwanted players after he declined to sign an extension.

This approach is common in France leading the players union to file a formal grievance last year.

Mbappe was left out of PSGs 2023 Asia pre season trip and sat out the seasons opener yet returned to action following discussions with officials.

Following seven years at PSG he now plays for Real Madrid on an estimated 30 million euro yearly wage.

During his time there Mbappe netted 256 goals across 308 appearances although PSG claimed their inaugural Champions League title post his exit last term.
