Frank discloses Romero's remorse for disappointing Tottenham

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank, facing intense scrutiny, revealed that team captain Cristian Romero expressed regret to his colleagues for receiving a red card in the opening half of their 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Saturday.

Earlier that week, Romero had publicly criticised the club's leadership on social media, labelling the depleted roster Frank was managing amid injuries as unacceptable.

Frank noted that the Argentine player had already faced internal repercussions for the online remark, yet this latest disciplinary lapse raised further doubts about his suitability as skipper.

After misplacing the ball near Tottenham's penalty area, Romero recklessly challenged Casemiro, leaving his team short-handed for the remaining 60 minutes.

The 27-year-old faces a four-match ban, following an earlier ejection this campaign, which increases his total red cards for Spurs to six.

Cristian had no intent to follow through aggressively or earn a sending-off, Frank explained. He was obviously aiming for the ball.

Regrettably, under current regulations, it resulted in a red. Romero conveyed his apologies to the squad in the changing room afterwards.

We must address this matter. One key aspect we have emphasised is building mental toughness.

Although the outcome was not in our favour today, the effort displayed by the players on the field was truly remarkable, Frank added.

Tottenham have now gone seven Premier League matches without a victory and risk dropping to within six points of the drop zone if West Ham defeats bottom-side Burnley later that day.

In terms of performance, we have encountered significant difficulties lately. Just two triumphs in the previous 16 league fixtures is simply not up to standard for this club, commented goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Despite ongoing demands from supporters for his removal, the board has granted Frank temporary security in his role as the ex-Brentford coach.

When questioned about his position, Frank replied, Concentrate solely on the upcoming fixture. That will be against Newcastle on Tuesday evening.
